Marion Renee – Entrepreneur
Afro Puffs and Ponytails present Marion Renee, and African American Entrepreneur.
It started when I as 12 yrs old. I wanted individual braids really bad and I begged my mother to find someone to put them in for me. We finally found someone and thought we had a really good thing until we saw the end results… horror. Hair was sticking out from all over the braids. They were lose and very puffy at the base, but the girl had did the spiral curl at the end of them and I thought I could pull it off until I met up with some school friends…I still remember the comments from the kids when they saw my hair, which by the way was always kept up very well in my kitchen press n curl done by my mother weekly….” ugh, who did your hair?!” “oooo uh uh! It looks a mess, I don’t think she did it right.” ” You should take it out, it makes you look so ugly!” and so on and so on.
When I got home, I was so angry and I guess pretty determined to get what I wanted; I took those braids down to my mother’s dismay ( she thought I should have worn them long enough to get her monies worth, but I figured 3 days was long enough). I began experiementing with how to attach the synthetic hair to my hair, asking my mother questions about braiding and doing plaits until one day I fianlly got it. It appeared that the lights were on and someone was at home! By the time I was in high school, I was charging $1 per french braid at lunch time. I was able to buy my lunch when I didn’t have enough.
I decided what I was going to do with my life after high school. I braided and braided and BRAIDED. I won customers over with my innovative styles and personal care. I learned how to do individual cornrows, interlocks, weaves, LINN braiding, silky wrap, synthetic dreds, yarn wrapped synthetic dreds, styling/ designs, 2 strand twist on and on. I have been featured in HYPE HAIR and LEGENDS Hair Styles. I took it upon myself to also learn the art of locking natural
hair from semi-straight to curly/kinky using a latch-hook or plastic needle. I can start them from a single twist to a double twist or just using the crochet tool (my preference).
I love what I do and I care about my clients. I am so glad that God has given me so many gifts and talents to help and to serve others.
“Keep going, the passion you have in you to accomplish the goal comes from Him as well as the talent so be of good courage and believe”.
