Because I Said So, Inc. – Atlanta, GA

bissLadaria Smith is the founder and CEO of Because I Said So, Inc. (BISS).  The goal of Because I Said So Inc., is to help build healthy self-esteem in teenage girls in a non-competitive environment.  BISS will provide counseling, financial literacy and other outreach programs in an effort to combat teen pregnancy, illiteracy and increase awareness in our community.

Their program is an 8 month long commitment between the mentor and mentee. Every 3rd Saturday of the month, mentors and mentees spend 2 hours together, participating in fun and enriching activities.

BISS strives to:

  • Improve the mentee’s self worth
  • Help them to make wise choices
  • Understand the importance of getting their education
  • Follow their path in destiny

Afro Puffs and Ponytails is constantly searching for information about camps, clubs and organizations, and mentoring programs to provide as resources for parents and community organizers. It is our hopes that each resource provided will serve to build confidence, enhance self esteem, develop leadership skills, empower, uplift and educate our African American girls. We are not recommending these programs, but offering a starting point for you to conduct your own evaluation and research about whether a program is right for your child.
