an outreach ministry of Anderson United Methodist Church in Jackson, MS, is designed as a comprehensive mentoring program that helps to meet some of the social, spiritual, and academic needs of “at-risk” African American girls in middle school and high school.

Purpose

The purpose  of D.I.V.A.A.S.  is to enhance the lives of African American girls by offering them a supportive network and a safe and comfortable outlet for self-expression. This ministry helps to provide the tools necessary for social, spiritual, and academic success by affording participants additional guidance and support to help them navigate the rough tides of adolescence and young adulthood.

Goals

The primary goals of this ministry are to have a positive impact on the lives of African American girls, allow them the opportunity to form strong and lasting bonds with positive and spiritual role models, and offer them the tools they need to excel spiritually, socially and academically.  Program participants are involved in regular weekly workshops addressing issues such as health and hygiene and test-taking/study skills, as well as regular Christian Character Enrichment sessions.  D.I.V.A.A.S. participants are also involved in community service activities, college tours, and they also put on an annual talent showcase to raise funds for college scholarships.

I’m a single parent of a 13 yr old and I’m very interested in this program. My search was via internet for help in the Jackson, Ms area of mentoring teen girls. In the past year I have been having uncontrollable issues with her and really need additional guidance at this point. She’s 8th grade and I feel she needs to be around positive teens of her age group. I don’t want to lose her because she’s my daughter and I love her very much. Thank you for such a positive program.

I’m a single parent of a 13yr old daughter. In the past year I have been having uncontrollable issues with her and really need some additional guidance. I’ve sent her to her father for this school year (8th grade) and she seems to have gotten worse. I’m at my ends and really need help before I lose her or give up on her.

Please send me more information concerning your program.

    Thanks in advance,
