Giolai – Yonkers, NY
Giolai, founded by Executive Director Pamela N. Njapa-Minyard, is a division of Tomorrow Leaders, Inc., a Westchester based not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to enhancing the future for girls 11 to 18 who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. We help these girls to become responsible, self-reliant and successful students who will grow into equally successful adults and members of their communities.
We provide girls with support in college planning, entrepreneurship, public speaking, etiquette training, health and fitness, and financial planning. We also promote a dialogue among the girls, their parents, corporations and schools and colleges with the aim of providing these girls and their parents with insight as to how to prepare for the complex world they will inherit.
What We Do:
We provide girls with support in
- cultural awareness
- public speaking
- etiquette training
- financial planning
- college planning
- entrepreneurship
- mentoring
We feel that these topics and others are important aspects of experiential leadership training. We promote a dialog between the girls, their parents, corporations and their schools and colleges with the aim of providing the girls and their parents with insight as to how to prepare for the complex world these young women will inherit.

Afro Puffs and Ponytails is constantly searching for information about clubs and organizations to provide as resources for parents and community organizers. It is our hopes that each resource provided will serve to build confidence, enhance self esteem, instill leadership skills, empower, uplift and educate our African American girls. We are not recommending these programs, but offering a starting point for you to conduct your own evaluation and research about whether a program is right for your child.
