Girl Power! is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit prevention and intervention social change program that promotes positive behavior, enhances social skills and improves academic performance in at-risk girls ages 11 – 17.

Established in 2000 by the World Literacy Crusade (WLC) of Florida – an international, non-profit, community literacy program – Girl Power! encourages young girls to build confidence, competence and pride within themselves. We also provide workshops and materials that inform girls about the risk and consequences associated with substance abuse, low self-esteem, lack of education and more.

Our Program Objectives:
  1. Prevent/reduce truancy, academic failure, and school suspension among middle school girls.
  2. Prevent/reduce the number of middle school girls entering into the juvenile justice system.
  3. Improve overall academic performance among program participants.

Afro Puffs and Ponytails is constantly searching for information about camps, clubs and organizations, and mentoring programs to provide as resources for parents and community organizers. It is our hopes that each resource provided will serve to build confidence, enhance self esteem, develop leadership skills, empower, uplift and educate our African American girls. We are not recommending these programs, but offering a starting point for you to conduct your own evaluation and research about whether a program is right for your child.
