Girls Quest – New York, NY
Our mission is to nurture girls from low income families in New York to help them achieve their full potential and become active members of their communities by building academic and social competence. Girls Quest strives to empower girls to become strong, productive and caring contributors to their communities through outdoor experiential education, year-round mentoring, leadership training and peer-to-peer role modeling. In 2008 we served over 300 girls, 69% were African American, 16% Latina, 8% multi-racial, 4% Caucasian, and 1% Asian American.

Afro Puffs and Ponytails is constantly searching for information about camps, clubs and organizations, and mentoring programs to provide as resources for parents and community organizers. It is our hope that each resource provided will serve to build confidence, improve self esteem, develop leadership skills, empower, uplift and educate our African American girls. We are not recommending these programs, but offering a starting point for you to conduct your own evaluation and research about whether a program is right for your child.
