» Pearls For Teen Girls Inc – Milwaukee, WI
// by KimPEARLS is a totally innovative leadership development organization serving at-risk middle and high school girls in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Danae Davis, a distinguished leader in the community, is the Executive Director of the organization.
The primary goal of PEARLS is to help at-risk girls, particularly those facing the challenges of poverty, to achieve in school, take responsibility for their behavior, avoid teen pregnancy, violence and other negative traps, and ultimately, use their personal power to reach their goals and dreams.
Through supportive conversation circles, a nationally recognized Goal Setting Program, peer and adult mentoring, and a variety of community-based activities, PEARLS girls practice important skills including listening to and understanding the viewpoints of others, communicating clearly, thinking critically, and making sound decisions.
PEARLS girls develop social, emotional and intellectual tools to help them create a positive life vision, develop success skills, serve as community role models, and access the resources they need to achieve their goals. At each PEARLS session the girls recite and commit to living the PEARLS Promise.
PEARLS Goal Setting Program helps girls build a lifelong capacity to set goals, work an action plan, and achieve goals. It also helps them develop the critical thinking skills needed to assess and understand why or how a goal was NOT achieved, so that plans can be revised and a new course of action set. Most importantly, PEARLS uses its goal-setting program to help girls cultivate the self-reflection and decision-making skills essential to success in school, relationships, work and life. Girls set goals using PEARLS’ custom designed Leadership Compass.
PEARLS programs are girls-only, safe-space gatherings that meet once weekly after school, during school or on Saturdays. PEARLS maximizes its impact, effectiveness, and efficiency by working in collaboration with Milwaukee Public Schools and other youth-serving organizations to provide PEARLS programs directly within the places where teens already meet.
