Karen PetersThe Peace & Beauty Project , founded by Karen Peters, is a nonprofit organization that takes a unique approach to making girls more self aware, health conscious, and empowered to honor themselves.

The Peace & Beauty Project hosts workshops that teach girls the to blend their own healthy beauty care products. We take this fun, yet potent activity and interweave it with seeds of self nurturing, self empowerment, and positive self regard.

Afro Puffs and Ponytails is constantly searching for information about camps, clubs and organizations, and mentoring programs to provide as resources for parents and community organizers. It is our hopes that each resource provided will serve to build confidence, enhance self esteem, develop leadership skills, empower, uplift and educate our African American girls. We are not recommending these programs, but offering a starting point for you to conduct your own evaluation and research about whether a program is right for your child.

My Girl Scout Troop 1406 had a Peace and Beauty Workshop last night. We made a moisturizing balm with coconut oil and soy wax. My Troop had an amazing time! Karen was fantastic! Here’s what some of the girls had to say after the workshop.

“It smells so good”! -Javia (age 6)

“You can tell that lady uses lots of her products because she is really pretty”. “Did you see her skin ? It was beautiful”.
-Dayjah (age 10)

“That was really fun”.
-Natayah (age 9)

I work in an elementary school and work as one of the sponsors for a group of 4th and 5th grade girls called Ladies of Distinction. Karen came in and spoke to them and give them the opportunity to make a hand scrub-she was phenomenal and the message was profound! I am so thankful to Karen and the project because the concepts reiterated what we tell them all the time-They are BEAUTIFUL!!
