youngwomenofpromiseYoung Women of Promise, Inc., is a nonprofit corporation founded by Theresa Ann Williams, which promotes the involvement of parents, families, educators, business and community leaders in programs that provide social, academic, and community service learning activities for our adolescent females. Their programs provide educational and cultural experiences that expose young women to the attitudes, knowledge and skills they will need to successfully move from childhood to adolescence and then on to responsible adulthood.

Mission

The mission of Young Women of Promise is to prepare African-American adolescent females for success.  Our mentoring program is based on the belief that the future of our adolescent African-American female is promising.  Our proactive approach is to promote positive adolescent development and serve our young women during the ages in which many important life decisions are affected by peer pressure and negative behaviors such as teen pregnancy, teen violence and drug and alcohol abuse.

Afro Puffs and Ponytails is constantly searching for information about clubs and organizations to provide as resources for parents and community organizers. It is our hope that each resource provided will serve to build confidence, enhance self esteem, instill leadership skills, empower, uplift and educate our African American girls. We are not recommending these programs, but offering a starting point for you to conduct your own evaluation and research about whether a program is right for your child.
